A SOCIAL enterprise helping people recovering from addiction has received £1,000 funding.

Kennedy St and Co CIC is based in Brighton and was founded by former Coronation Street actor Kevin Kennedy (Curly Watts), and his wife Clare.

The aim is to help build the resilience, wellbeing and employability skills of people in recovery.

The couple have experienced the power of recovery first hand, having both overcome their alcohol addictions almost 20 years ago.

The donation from CALA Homes has been used to buy new photography equipment to help the charity promote the work it does.

The CALA Community Bursary was first launched in 2017 and the housebuilder invited local charities, organisations and groups to apply for help to fund projects which make a vital difference in and around their communities.

Clare Kennedy said: “We are thrilled to have received this funding as part of CALA’s Community Bursary.

“For the last 19 years I have helped the street community to find sobriety and once sober, I’ve helped them to find a job and a clean place to live.

“We set up our not-for-profit organisation in the hope of reaching even more people.

“Both Kevin and I are unfunded directors and we currently run the organisation for free.

“This donation from CALA Homes will go a long way towards aiding our work.”

John Kennedy, regional managing director for CALA Homes South Home Counties, said: “Kennedy St and Co CIC does wonderful work supporting locals who have been affected by addiction and plays a vital role in helping them get their lives back on track.

“We received lots of amazing applications from so many worthwhile causes.”
