Brighton and Hove is famous for many things. But no-one would ever mistake it for an industrial powerhouse.

So it is puzzling that a survey of land available for employment in the city has highlighted the need for industrial floor space. This is one of the very last things the city needs.

What the city is crying out for are houses, schools and jobs. Fortunately we have just such a site at Toads Hole Valley in Hove. The plan for this area has become a political football but now is the time to blow the final whistle on in- fighting and politicking. The stakes are too high.

When Brighton and Hove City Council’s Policy and Resources Committee meets on Thursday, cool heads must prevail. The development of Toads Hole Valley must receive the backing of all sides of the ideological divide.

The council members have the unique opportunity to shape the city for generations to come. They will not be lightly forgiven if they blow it.
