New spin on Sussex-based footie magazine

The team behind Golf Punk magazine is putting its irreverent spin on a different sport.

Football Punk, produced by JF-Media, based at the Sussex Innovation Centre in Falmer, near Brighton, will offer a mix of sporting and lifestyle features, along with articles on music, fashion, gadgets and games.

Former Liverpool footballer Phil Babb is editor-at-large and has used his contacts in the football world to secure interviews with top names.

Editor Richard Lenton said: “Phil gives us a lot of kudos within football because he is still a big name.

Before he signed for Millwall as a teenager he wanted to be a journalist, so he has come full circle.”

The first 160-page issue features an exclusive interview with Liverpool and England midfielder Steven Gerrard as well as Nicolas Anelka, Robbie Savage and rock band Kasabian.

Mr Lenton said: “Because it is the end of the season the idea is to go for a soft launch to build a head of steam until August when we will give it a big PR push for the start of next season and launch the website at the same time.”

Football Punk, priced £2, is sold exclusively through WH Smith.
