Business awards celebrating the best in Sussex have been launched under a new chairmanship.

The 26th Sussex Business Awards officially opened with events in Brighton, Crawley and Uckfield.

Chairman Peter Field, Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, will stand down and Mike Herd, executive director of Sussex Innovation Centre and Sussex Businessperson of the year 2000 will step in.

Mayo Wynne Baxter joins a team of sponsors, including Morgan Sindall, Domestic and General, Mazars, Legal and General, Sussex Innovation Centre, HSBC, Checkaprofessional, Sussex Enterprise, Heart FM, Sussex Business Times and Absolute Brighton.

Sussex Downs College is sponsoring a brand new award for the Young Sussex Businessperson of the year and Wealden District Council will be sponsoring the award for the Most Sustainable Business.

Applicants have until August 29, 2014 to prepare their submissions. Winners will be announced at The Grand Brighton on December 10.
