RARE industrial space is being built in Newhaven.

Works are continuing apace at Eastside Business Park in Beach Road with the steelwork on one building already up.

Steelwork will soon appear on a second building.

These two 12,000 square feet warehouses will form the first phase of this new development by BL Trading.

Anticipated completion of the first phase has been moved forward to October.

Letting agents Stiles Harold Williams - in conjunction with Hunt Commercial - report strong interest.

There are a number of factors resulting in this strong interest, including that this is the first new development in Newhaven for a number of years.

It is anticipated that the first phase will be fully let by completion of the building works.

David Martin of SHW said: β€œIt has been repeatedly said there is a chronic shortage of industrial stock in the region.

β€œI cannot overestimate how welcome this scheme is and how pleased we are to be involved.”

Newhaven has been seen as a depressed area for many years in need of new investment.

But council and business leaders have tried to change this in recent times.

Indeed, MP Maria Caulfield said last year that Newhaven could be competing with Brighton at some stage in the future.

She believes there is real future potential in the port town.
