Brighton firm's SMS software helps businesses stay in contact

A software firm has developed a way for small business to market on a tight budget and keep in touch with their customers.

Redware, at the Brighton Media Centre in Middle Street, Brighton, has created Sync SMS, which makes it easier to send text messages to many different numbers over the internet.

Managing director Stamati Crook said the system was perfect for small companies which may not have a large marketing budget or for professionals such as dentists who need to alert patients about forthcoming appointments.

He said: “Even though people receive the text over the internet, it looks as though it has come from their own handset. When a person replies the message is sent back to the handset rather than the website.

“But people can set the programme so that messages are all sent to a single web page which they can view when they want.”

The cost of each text ranges from 5p to 7.5p, depending on if they are sent overseas or not.

If people don’t want to pay this amount, they can buy a modem for about £150 in which they can insert their SMS card and utilise any free text messages they may have with their mobile phone contract.

Mr Crook added: “A lot of people get free texts on their contract but never use them. This way they can use these extra texts for their business and it does not cost them anything.”

Redware, which usually specialises in software add-ons for Microsoft CRM and accounting programme Sage, has also adapted the technology to convert messages using Unicode into foreign script such as Arabic or Greek.

Gary Forster, of Worthing-based business telecommunications firm Systemcare UK Ltd, said: “We use the Redware SMS software in combination with our customer relationship management system to keep in contact with our engineers and salespeople throughout the day.

“We are finding that the combination of a CRM system and mobile phones is improving our efficiency and helping us communicate with our staff and customers more effectively.”
