Brighton restauranteur's bid to find the best chefs

A restauranteur is trying to organise a Masterchef-style competition to help the catering industry.

Rosario Guarneri, who owns The Arrogant Frog in King’s Road, Brighton, wants the best chefs in Sussex to take on their counterparts in Kent, Surrey and Hampshire.

The twist would be that each could only use produce from their own county.

Proceeds from ticket sales would go to charities such as MacMillan Cancer Relief, the Trevor Mann Baby Unit at the Royal Sussex County Hospital or The Argus Appeal.

Mr Guarneri believes the competition will be a boost to the restaurant industry, which has suffered in the recession as consumers rein in their spending.

Plans are still in the early stages and Mr Guarneri would need several sponsors to come forward.

Those interested should email rosario@thearrogantfrog.com.
