AN air ambulance landed at The Level after a man fell down a flight of stairs at a pub.
Emergency services were called to the Bat and Ball pub in Ditchling Road, Brighton, to reports of the incident before 4pm on Wednesday.
The Kent, Sussex and Surrey Air Ambulance attended - as they have a doctor on board - but the man was taken by road ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital where he is in a serious condition with head and body injuries.
Lucy Manville, the landlady of the Bat and Ball, posted on Facebook: "Unfortunately one of my elderly customers took a tumble down my stairs and is in a very serious way. Thank you for all your concerns. I will pass them onto my friend."
A Sussex Police spokesman said: "The incident is not being treated as suspicious and there is no further police involvement."
