A MAN was robbed of cash and his mobile phone as he walked home from celebrating Christmas with his family.

The victim, a local man in his 30s, was assaulted on the upper promenade, Kings Road, Brighton, opposite the Metropole Hotel, on Christmas Day between 10pm and 10.30pm.

Up to three people are suspected to have been involved and the victim sustained significant head and facial injuries that required hospital treatment.

The first was a white man, aged 35 - 45, around 6' and of medium build. He was unshaven with dark hair. He was wearing dark 'winter' clothing. He was also described as having an eastern European accent.

The second suspect was a white man, aged 35 - 45, more than 6' tall and of stocky build.

The third suspect was a white woman, about 5'6", and with shoulder-length dark hair.
