A LORRY has overturned on the A27.

The incident happened at the Fontwell Roundabout near Chichester this morning.

Huge delays are expected, and police are on the scene now.

Sussex Roads Police tweeted at 6.50am: "Reports are coming in of an overturned lorry at the A27 Fontwell Roundabout, near Chichester. Expect delays, more to follow."

They later added: "Units at scene dealing. Substantial delays. Seek alternative route."

Minor injuries were reported to the driver and a passenger.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "Both east and westbound carriageways of the A27 at Fontwell, near Arundel, were due to be closed on Friday morning (February 9) to allow recovery of a wagon which had overturned onto the central reservation.

"The Mercedes-Benz vehicle, configured as a concrete pump, crashed at around 6.40am while travelling east between Chichester and Arundel.

"The driver and a passenger sustained minor injuries.

"No other vehicle is believed to have been involved.

"The road was partially blocked from the outset."

Sussex Roads Police later tweeted the A27 between Fontwell and Tangmere will be closed between 2pm and 3pm for recovery, and urged motorists to avoid the road.
