Dramatic footage has revealed the moment when a disorientated cyclist was rescued from under the sea cliffs at Newhaven.
The cyclist had become stranded on the rocks, and lifeboat crews had to swim and wade through water to reach him and take him to safety.
Coastguards and RNLI volunteers were called after the cyclist got into difficulties below the sea cliffs near the Rushy Hill Caravan Park on Tuesday.
The Brighton crew was dispatched, and video footage shows them sailing along the coast in the inshore lifeboat to reach the stranded man.
Crew members jumped into the water and swam to shore to reach the man, and are then seen carrying the bike back to the lifeboat.
He was then helped on board the boat before being taken back to the Newhaven Lifeboat station.
Newhaven Coastguards posted on Facebook about the callout, and said they initially went to the Rushy Hill Caravan Park after the police an emergency call.
They said: “The coastguards were tasked after a report of a person in difficulty below the cliff.
“The casualty had a push bike on the rocks below the caravan site, and was trying to make his way from Newhaven to Peacehaven as part of a bike ride.
“But he wasn’t aware of the terrain and became exhausted and disorientated. He was taken back to the Newhaven Lifeboat station for a warm cup of tea and a further health assessment.”
