Stuart Goldsmith

Komedia, Brighton, Sunday, June 17

Stuart Goldsmith is celebrating his 25th appearance at the Edinburgh Fringe this year, having made his debut there at the age of 16. Now, he is preparing for the show with a night at the Komedia in Brighton. Performing half of his show with the set that was so highly acclaimed at last years Edinburgh Fringe will be a real treat for the audience. Something that will be even better, however, is the second hour of the show which will preview the set he is taking to Scotland in this years festival. A chance to see a set from a highly rated stand up comic and to say ‘I saw it before it got critically acclaimed’ is not to be sniffed at.

Waxahatchee

The Haunt, Brighton, Saturday, June 16

Named after a creek close to her childhood home in Birmingham, Alabama, Waxahatchee seems to bring elements of her upbringing into her show. Her husky voice, with hints of that classic southern drawl, give her an air of seduction and passion that many would struggle to replicate. Her poetic and curious lyrics transport you to a place where you can imagine she may have been brought up. Katie Cruchfield is the woman behind the voice, but when you see her you’ll truly believe that Waxahatchee is a person, not just a body of water.

LIFE

The Green Door Store, Brighton, Sunday, June 17

Formed by Hull brothers Mez and Mick, Life are bringing their British pop-rock tunes to our shores this weekend. Their music is energetic, high-tempo and full of life. It’s exactly the type of music that will get you moving - if you want to stand still I wouldn’t recommend seeing this lot. Sometimes compared to a young Artic Monkeys, Life are still relatively young in their history but when they hit the stage and do what they do best you wouldn’t know it.

With gags and one-liners around every corner, and tickets at just £13, you certainly get value for money.
