Detectives are continuing to investigate the rape of a teenage girl in a field near Ovingdean.

A 14-year-old girl was attacked by a man at the northern end of Sheep Walk where it joins a field at around 2pm on Wednesday.

Detective Inspector Lee Horner said: "We are doing all we can to support the young girl at the very early stage of this investigation.

"We have yet to interview her to obtain full details of what happened.

"She said she was approached by a white man, in his 40s.

"We would appeal to anyone who saw a man acting suspiciously or has any information to contact us.

"If you saw her alone or being approached or believe you can provide us with any detail that can help with the investigation, please contact us.

"My officers will be conducting house to house inquiries and anyone with concerns is encouraged to talk with them."
