ONE of Brighton’s “most wanted” men pleaded guilty to stealing £10,000 worth of computers and cameras in a burglary while he was drunk.

Nigel Thomas Maynard was caught on CCTV carrying out a burglary with two accomplices at Dv8’s multimedia studio in Queens Square, Brighton, on October 28 at 6.30am.

Maynard, of no fixed address, but formerly of Hadlow Close, Brighton, was caught on Sunday night and appeared before Brighton Magistrates Court on Monday.

Prosecutor Andrew Walker told the court how the 41-year-old was seen on CCTV with two other men using a paving slab to break into the property.

The CCTV footage showed them “ripping computers from their cabling and putting them into plastic bags,” he said.

James Warren, defending, said Maynard, a removal man, had little recollection of the incident as he had been under the influence of “drink and drugs”.

Before they left the property the burglars also made off with a “box of cameras” and the court heard that brought the total value of their theft to goods worth £10,000.

Maynard also pleaded guilty to taking a silver Mercedes, worth £14,000, without consent from Peacehaven on June 15.

He had been recalled to prison in July for failing to adhere to his probation conditions for a conviction in November last year for possession of drugs with intent to supply.

On Sunday police tweeted that Maynard, referred to as “one of our most wanted”, had been arrested.

Previously reported charges of failing to stop for police and driving without a licence or insurance were dropped.

Magistrate Maggie Brain said the burglary caused “substantial damage” to the property. She said Maynard’s offences “indicate greater punishment than we can give out here”.

He was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on December 19 at Lewes Crown Court.
