A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after he failed to stop following a crash that left a car on its roof.

Two engines were sent from Preston Circus Community Fire Station to Montpelier Terrace in Brighton to reports of a crash at the junction with Montpelier Road.

A Peugeot was left on its roof and the driver had to be freed by firefighters, while the driver of the other car - a BMW - fled the scene shortly after 3.45am this morning.

Shortly afterwards, police went to a nearby address and arrested a 19-year old man on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol and failing to stop at the scene of the collision.

He was treated at the Royal Sussex County Hospital for minor injuries but is now in custody for interview and further enquiries.

The driver of the Peugeot was treated at the scene by paramedics for minor injuries.

Sussex Police are now appealing for any witnesses to the crash to come forward.
