Detectives investigating the kidnapping of a man in Brighton have found the car he was driven away in.

A man was bundled into a Vauxhall Astra with the registration number HN05 FPY in Princes Terrace, Brighton, on Sunday just moments after he got out of a taxi in the road.

The Vauxhall involved in the kidnapping was found parked in Benett Avenue, Hove, this afternoon.

It has been taken away to be forensically examined but officers are now trying to trace exactly where it has been since Sunday evening.

Police have so far been unable to identify the man who was attacked and are carrying out inquiries across the city to try to trace him. Information received so far suggests that he is Albanian.

They are also still trying to find two more men who they believe were involved in the kidnapping.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Preston said: "CCTV footage of the kidnapping suggests that four men forced the victim into the Vauxhall Astra on Sunday so it is clear that some of those involved have not yet been arrested.

"We urgently need to trace the victim to make sure he is ok and to find all those who were involved so that they can be questioned. If you have any idea who any of these men are or where they could be, please contact us.

"I would also urge anyone who may have seen the Vauxhall Astra before or after the kidnapping to get in touch. Putting together where it has been could lead us to where the victim has been so we need the public's help with this urgently."

Officers have been given more time today to question a 23-year-old man and a 29-year-old man, both of Albanian descent but who both live in the city, who were arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of conspiracy to kidnap.

A 34-year-old man from Hove who was also arrested on the same day on suspicion of conspiracy to kidnap has been released on bail.

Police believe a man caught on CCTV in Queens Square, Brighton, could be the victim. The footage shows him with another man close to the taxi rank in the road shortly after 5.30pm on Sunday.

The man with the beard and sunglasses in the CCTV is suspected to be the victim. The second man may have seen the kidnapping happen.

The next part of the footage was recorded on security cameras in Princes Terrace shortly before 6pm. It features two men standing next to a parked red car in the road. When a white taxi pulls up close by, the men move towards it.

The footage then cuts to a white Vauxhall Astra parked nearby. A number of men get out of the vehicle and go out of the view of the camera. A group of figures are then seen dragging another man to the Vauxhall and forcing him inside before the car is driven off.
