A MAN has been stabbed after intruders entered his house.

The 26-year-old victim suffered deep cuts following the incident in Redford Close, Eastbourne between 10pm and 10.30pm last night.

The man was was taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton. His condition is serious but not life-threatening condition.

Police said they believed the attack involved "a bladed weapon".

A Staffordshire bull terrier present at the scene was also wounded and is now recovering at a local veterinary surgery.

Police were called to the area and the police helicopter was also flying above the scene for some time, The Argus understands. The area was cordoned off and police are investigating.

Detective Inspector Mark O'Brien, of Eastbourne CID, said: "The motive for the attack is still not clear. Four men in dark clothing forced their way into the house and slashed at the man with some sort of sharp instrument.

"It is possible that people in the vicinity may have seen or heard signs of a disturbance or noticed suspicious vehicles or people. We would like to talk to  anyone who may have information that could help us with our investigation."
