A £50 reward has been offered for the safe return of a life-size fibreglass donkey which was stolen from a country show.

Dotty is still missing more than a week after disappearing from the Edenbridge and Oxted Show in the early hours of August 31.

The donkey belongs to the Brooke charity - a group that has raised more than £140,000 to improve the welfare of donkeys and horses in developing countries.

Charity fundraiser Diane Price, from East Grinstead, said she was shocked that anyone would consider stealing it.

She said: “It’s a violation of our efforts and what we stand for.

“I just can’t believe that someone would steal from a charity at an event where people are supposed to be having fun.”

She added that she thought the theft might prove to have been one of a number of pranks at the festival which also saw a flagpole broken and an ice cream van emptied.

PCSO Conrad Cheeseman said: "This is such an unusual thing to steal and we are sure that someone would have seen something or knows its current whereabouts.

"If you have any information about it then please do the right thing and call the police on 101."

Mrs Price's daughter Jemima has taken to social media in a bid to secure the safe return of Dotty and has launched the hastag #findourdonkey.

She said: “Myself, my sisters, and our dearest dad who we so sadly lost a couple of weeks ago, had clubbed together to buy this special donkey for my mum two years ago and she put it to good use out on site with her charity stall.

“Any information or help in bringing the Brooke donkey home would be most appreciated. Reward offered.”

Her Facebook posts have been shared hundreds of times and have received dozens of comment.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting reference 45150078446.
