AN elderly man will appear in court after a car crashed into a coffee shop killing a customer.
Valerie Deakin, 74, was enjoying a drink with her eldest daughter and best friend in a Costa Coffee on Christmas Eve when an Audi crashed into the shop.
The 74-year-old, of Udimore, near Rye, died at the scene in Westerham, near Sevenoaks, Kent.
Kent Police said an 86-year-old man, who has not been named, has received a summons for causing death by dangerous driving. He will appear at Sevenoaks Magistrates' Court on July 5.
Married for 50 years, Mrs Deakin was described by her relatives as a hard-working mother-of-two.
Two men and two women who were injured in the crash were taken to hospitals in London and Farnborough. Another woman was taken to Pembury Hospital with minor injuries.
