A BLACK Labrador died after being attacked by another dog.

The dog was being walked on a lead by its owner in Vale Road, Seaford, when the other animal struck.

Several people had tried to help, and one drove his car at the attacking dog to try to separate the pair.

The Labrador died at the scene of the incident, which happened shortly after 11.30pm last night.

The other dog, described as a bull mastiff/Rottweiler cross, was found nearby soon afterwards.

Its owner, who was not present at the time of the incident, later gave written authority for it to be humanely put down by a vet.

A 27-year old local man was arrested on suspicion of allowing the dog to be dangerously out of control and causing injury.

He is currently in custody for interview and further enquiries.

The owner of the Labrador, a 19-year-old woman, was treated at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton for bite injuries to a hand and a forearm.

Witnesses are asked to contact Sussex Police via 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101, quoting serial 1625 of May 24.
