THREE men burst into a family's home armed with machete before fleeing with several hundreds of pounds cash.

The frightening robbery took place as a couple and their two children relaxed at home on Sunday evening.

The men kicked down the door and demanded money from the couple in Varey Road, Durrington, at around 7pm on Sunday (October 16).

The couple, 28 and 30, were watching television and their two children, 10 and four, were in another room watching a film.

They handed over the cash before the robbers left the area in a vehicle.

DC Simmonds of Sussex Police said: "This was a frightening experience for a family relaxing in their own home. We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious at the relevant time and place."

The first offender was white, 6', of skinny build, wearing a black knitted balaclava, black jumper or hoodie, navy blue tracksuit bottoms with white stripes, black knitted gloves and trainers. He spoke with a southern accent.

The second man was also white, 5'6", stocky build, with a northern accent, and similarly dressed, all in black.

The third man was 6', and again wearing a balaclava, black gloves and dark clothing.
