A BOY was left seriously injured after a car knocked him down while he waited to cross the road.

A 69-year-old man from St Leonards was driving a silver Renault Espace which crashed into a central crossing bollard on the westbound A259 Bexhill Road, in Bulverhythe close to the junction with Bulverhythe Road where the boy was waiting to cross.

The 11-year-old was run over as a result of the crash which took place at around 1pm on Saturday (October 22).

The youngster was taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting with a head injury, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Police officers arrested the driver of the Espace on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drugs. He has been bailed pending further enquiries.
