A YOUNG man was taken to hospital after being beaten with a baseball bat at a party, The Argus understands.
Residents in Whitehawk, Brighton, were woken by shouting and screaming at 6am yesterday morning.
The Argus understands that two men have been arrested.
Neighbours said that the commotion at a flat in Upper Chalvington Place started just after 6am.
Later in the day the scene was sealed off while scenes of crime officers dusted for fingerprints.
A pool of blood on the pavement just outside the main door of the low-rise block of flats was also examined.
A neighbour said that one man had been taken to hospital following what he described as “a party gone wrong”.
Matthew Thomas, 48, who lives on the estate said he was leaving for work when he heard the shouting.
He said three men in dark clothing walked down the steps from the building.
He said: “There was a big argument in the block of flats. Three guys came out of the flat, then went back in, then came out again with a girl – she looked to be in her teens or early twenties. All four of them got into a car and disappeared.”
He said the young girl was wearing only her pyjamas and no shoes.
He added that there may have been a knife and said he thought it had been abandoned.
He said: “It was about 14 inches long. I don’t know if it was a kitchen knife or a small samurai sword.”
The Argus approached Sussex Police for comment but at the time of going to press they had not responded.
Anyone with information should call police on 101.
