The fiancee of one of the 11 men who died in the Shoreham air disaster has appeared in court accused of drug dealing.

Giovanna Chirico, 34, was charged with possession with intent to supply the Class B drug amphetamine, also known by its street name speed.

She was engaged to Mark Trussler, 54, when he and 10 other men were killed when a vintage Hawker Hunter jet failed to pull out of a loop-the-loop stunt.

The plane, piloted by Andrew Hill, crashed in a fireball on to the busy A27 in front of thousands of spectators during the Shoreham Airshow on August 22, 2015.

At Worthing Magistrates' Court, Chirico, of Barton Close, Worthing, did not enter a plea to the charge, which can carry a prison sentence of up to three years.

Prosecutor Kirsten Sharp said more than 280g (10oz) of the drug, with a street value of £3,165, was found in a bag in Chirico's kitchen by police who executed a warrant at her home last September 22.

She said: "Miss Chirico said she knew it was there but didn't put it there."

Magistrate Wayne Wealleans granted Chirico unconditional bail and sent the case to Lewes Crown Court, where a preliminary hearing will be heard on March 7.
