A MAN who caused a five hour stand off with armed police has been charged in connection with the incident.

Officers were alerted to an address in Whitehawk Close, Brighton, at 4am on Monday after a report of a disturbance.

A man inside the property initially refused to come out but agreed to after five hours of negotiations with officers and was then arrested.

Unemployed William Miller, 36, of Whitehawk Close, Brighton, was charged with assault, affray, being concerned in the production of cannabis, grievous bodily harm with intent and false imprisonment.

He has been remanded in custody to appear before magistrates on July 17.

A 20-year-old man from Brighton was arrested at the same time as Miller, on suspicion of obstructing police and being concerned in the production of cannabis, was released under investigation.
