A WOMAN was injured when two men broke into her home.

The victim was last night still in hospital recovering from injuries to her face and arm as police stood guard at her flat in Portland Road, Hove.

Police arrested one man on suspicion of aggravated burglary immediately after the incident at about midday yesterday.

A second man was detained late yesterday afternoon and both were last night still in police custody being questioned.

Neighbours said they saw police and ambulance crews arrive at the scene shortly after midday.

A resident of the flats, Noble Court, said: “To think that someone could break into your home and hurt you is really scary.

“I really hope she’s OK.

There are quite a few vulnerable people here so it will be really upsetting for people.”

Another nearby resident told The Argus: “We saw a lot of ambulances and the police.

“A guy was taken away by the police. He was quite short and rough looking.”

Local businesswoman Shani Weston said: “I am really shocked.

“You don’t often hear of anything like that happening round here.

“There was quite a bit of drama. The police were there for hours.”

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: “Police received a report around midday on Wednesday of a woman who had been assaulted at a property in Portland Road, Hove.

“A woman, in her fifties, has injuries to her arm and face and is being treated at hospital.
