A SUSSEX University student accused of rape has pleaded not guilty.
Liam Allen, 21, of Grand Parade, Brighton, stands accused of raping another student on October 12 last year.
The computer science student pleaded not guilty at a plea hearing at Lewes Crown Court on Thursday.
At a previous hearing last month the court heard Allen, originally from Horsham, has been banished from campus as part of bail conditions set by the university since he was charged on August 24 this year.
His solicitor told the court the bail conditions restricting him going on campus were having an effect on his studies.
Cathy Walker, defending, told the court at the time: “Allen, as a result of being under investigation, has been suspended from attending the campus through his whole second year.
“He couldn’t attend lectures, had to have Skype mentoring sessions and is now about to start third year to start his dissertation.
“This year is critical and he should be able to attend the campus.”
Allen will now have to wait until June 2018 to have his trial heard. Bail conditions for his access to campus remain the same.
