A college has been praised by a national body.

Sussex Downs College has been handed the Matrix Standard, the quality standard for the effective delivery of information, advice and guidance on learning and work.

It ensures that organisations review, evaluate and develop their services and it encourages learners to take up professionally recognised qualifications and invest in the continuous professional development of their staff.

It is the second consecutive time that the college has received the accreditation, which lasts three years.

The quality benchmark relates to the college's student services, personal tutors and business development departments, including Eastbourne Works – the town’s job advice and skills development centre – and the International College.

The college was praised for its “innovative” approaches to working with hard to reach groups and increasing access to employment opportunities for young people and adults, such as through Eastbourne Works and the virtual Job Shop.

London calling A PUPIL from Haywards Heath has been accepted at one of Europe’s premier schools for dance training and education.

George Kyaing, 17, will learn at the Central School of Ballet (CSB) in London and is one of only 39 pupils accepted for a place on this three-year degree course.
