Travellers who parked on a school playing field have left Brighton.

Around eight caravans and other vehicles arrived on Carden Primary’s grounds on Tuesday night, pictured.

After just one day the field was littered with rubbish, with large tracks in the grass.

The group was ordered to leave yesterday afternoon under powers which enable police to make sure they go to the legitimate site at Horsdean or leave the city for three months

Brighton and Hove City Council said: “A group of travellers moved on to this land on August 2.

“A visit with the police to carry out health and welfare checks and conduct a community impact assessment was undertaken.

“A request was made to the police asking that they direct the travellers to the council’s site at Horsdean.

“The travellers vacated the land on August 3 and have left the city.”

A spokesman for the car boot sale held on the field on Sundays said it would be going ahead as usual this week.
