Roedean have seen the best performance ever as 96% of all examinations at A2 level have been awarded A*-C grades.

Students achieved 62% A*-A grades, which is the second successive rise in top grades.

A spokesman said: "It is clear that our girls took to heart one of the school’s messages that small but constant improvements do make a considerable difference to overall success.

"In recent years, many local girls from the state sector have joined Roedean in the Sixth Form, and we have been hugely impressed by their high achievements and wide-ranging contributions to the school."

Headmaster Oliver Blond said: "I am proud of the girls’ successes, and believe that their results will place Roedean amongst the top girls’ schools in the country.

"It is wonderful to see such success across day and boarding pupils.

"Our job is to help the girls to develop all of their talents, whether they be sporting or musical or creative, and to combine these with strong academic results, so that they leave Roedean ready to make their mark in the world."
