Newman College are celebrating excellent A-level results which will see record numbers of students heading to Oxbridge.

The college said: 

  • 98% of all entries gained A* - E grade
  • 70.3% of all entries gained A*-C grades
  • 46.1% of all entries gained A* - B grades 

A college spokeswoman said: "A record number of students have secured places at Oxbridge - particular congratulations to Ben Woodhouse who received 4 A* grades and will be going on to study Natural Sciences at Cambridge and Alice Sherwood who received 3 A*s and 1 A and will be going on to study History of Art at Cambridge.

"Well done to Alfie Hall and Katie Hatchley who also received 3 A*s.

"Congratulations to the following students for securing places at Oxford: Charlie Gould (PPE), Katie Hatchley (Chemistry), Matthew Karadzas (Biological Sciences), Chris Mottram (Mathematics), Sam Reeves (Chemistry), Gigi Warland-Edge (Mathematics) and Iggy Wood (PPE).

"Particular congratulations also to Helen Galvin and Martha Coyle who will be studying Medicine at their chosen universities."

Headteacher Dr James Kilmartin said: "The students are a credit to themselves, their families and the school.

"They have worked hard to achieve these results and I know that they will want to join me in thanking their teachers for the support and advice which has made a big contribution to their success.

"We are proud of each and every one of our students but I would like to particularly congratulate the record number of our students who have secured places at Oxford and Cambridge.

"As our Sixth Form continues to expand, we look forward to similar success in years to come.

"We wish our students the very best for the future, which for many of them will include taking up places at some of the country’s best universities while others will be embarking on apprenticeships and other high quality routes directly into the world of work."
