What’s one of the most exciting times of the year? For me, what I always loved as a child was Firework Night so I was thrilled to hear that in my village , there happened to be a firework extravaganza held at Mannings Heath Golf Club on the 27th of October.

Although the evening was chilly, the night started off with a bang with a mouth-watering arrangement of food: Burgers, Hog Roast, Hot Dogs, Doughnuts and more ……! I grabbed a seat eagerly waiting for the fireworks to start. All around me, the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement. Katie Budgen exclaimed, ‘Wow! What a night!’. We watched the smiles on the children’s faces as they had a go or two on the giant inflatable golf darts to try and win a sweet prize or in an adult’s case, wine!

BOOM! FIZZ! CRACKLE …….

The first firework exploded, scaring everyone but ending in ‘ooos’ and ‘ahhhs’. It was bursting with colour: shades of pink, purple and gold that fizzled out with a golden glow. We watched the display, mesmerized by all the different varieties of fireworks. They built up slowly towards a crescendo, and sadly before I knew it the evening had flown past, ending in raptures of clapping and cheering that fell into loud chatter.

I can’t wait to go again next year, and I think if you’d been there with me, you’d agree. For a fabulous firework night, I’d give it five out of five.
