Born on September 22 1952 Mr Hindle was educated in Newcastle before studying for a degree in maths and computing at Sheffield University.
He has professional experience in secondary, further and higher education since 1989 at Northumbria University. Mr Hindle was elected to Gateshead Council in 1991 and is the Deputy Opposition leader.
He was also the Lib Dem election agent for Fiona Hall MEP in 2004 and 2009.
Married with a grown up daughter his interests are walking , listening to music (jazz and classical) and playing the flute.
