Demonstrations have taken place to highlight concerns about the state of the NHS.

Rallies were held in Brighton and Crawley, raising awareness about cuts in services, job losses and financial problems.

A proposed shake-up threatening hospital services around the county was also talked about.

The day of action on Saturday was co-ordinated by NHS Together, an alliance of unions and health organisations dedicated to highlighting the effect of Government reforms on the NHS.

A rally was held outside the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Eastern Road, Brighton.

Sue Power, of Keep Our NHS Public, said: "The rally was very successful and we had a good representation of nurses, people from the unions and members of Keep Our NHS Public.

"The general tone of the thing was very positive because we sensed we share the same aims and those are opposing job cuts and other changes that are not based on medical needs."

She handed more than 250 signatures to The Argus, collected on behalf of its campaign to protect health services in the county.

In Crawley, a stall was set up in the Priory Meadow shopping centre, while street performances and a demonstration took place in the bandstand in Queens Square.
