Sightings of UFOs over Sussex reported

Residents have reported two separate sightings UFOs hovering over Sussex.

One family even believe they captured a bizarre close encounter with a flickering, silver craft on film, as it sailed over Hove Park.

The night before four orange orbs were reported floating across Shoreham.

The Argus was flooded with calls in November after strange orange lights were seen hovering over the Sussex coast.

Spotters thought they could have been watching beings from outer-space.

They were later disappointed to hear they had probably been duped by a hoax, with Chinese lanterns, bought on the Internet, suspected to have been released by children.

However, Stewart Hall, of Holmes Avenue, Hove, said his close encounter on Sunday afternoon looked nothing like a candle in a plastic bag.

The 44-year-old artist said he had been called out to his garden when his seven-year-old son Raphael was playing on a trampoline and saw what looked like a "flying stick".

He said: "Eventually I looked and to my amazement I saw a UFO. It had no wings and appeared to be a tubular shape. I rushed inside to get a camera."

But Mr Hall said the craft was far bigger than how it appears on screen.

He added: "My video camera has a three-times zoom so the footage is not conclusive but experts could probably make something of it.

"I did get a clear view of the craft though, through high quality binoculars, and can assure you it had no wings or windows and appeared to be a flying metal pole.

"I realised then there was no way it should be flying. It was really, really unusual. As it turned you could tell it had a silver body as the sun caught it.

"I'm sure hundreds of people must have seen it because it looked like it was headed towards the always busy Hove Park."

The "visitation" at 1.30pm on Sunday followed the sighting of strange, glowing orbs nearby on Saturday night.

Ian Thornton, of Second Avenue, Hove, said: "At about 11.30pm a friend and I noticed what seemed to be orange UFOs coming in from the south west over Shoreham.

"They were all travelling at the same altitude - lower than the usual aircraft - all moving at the same speed, and roughly on the same line and direction.

"We saw four of these orange UFOs. There might have been more."

Similar lights, spotted by dozens of people across Sussex on Saturday, November 18, at first baffled police and air-traffic controllers.

They were later discounted by experts, describing them as Chinese lanterns - small candles attached to plastic bags by drinking straws able to drift thousands of feet.

Sussex Police said they had received no reports of UFOs over the weekend.

A spokeswoman said: "We did have reports of children lighting fireworks in Kingston Lane, Southwick, at about 11.50pm on Saturday and 1.15pm on Sunday afternoon so they could be related.

"But there's nothing else that even comes close."

I also saw something similar to this on Sunday evening. My house looks out across the sea in Saltdean. My attention was first drawn to 3-4 strange lights out in the channel when my dog 'Charlie' starting barking. Could these strange lights be linked to the sonic booms which you reported a couple of days ago?, Thanks, Richard Valder-Davis

Only yesterday morning at around 9.45am I was perturbed to see what appeared to be some kind of indistinct, shapeless blob hovering in the sky in front of me. It seemed to stay directly within my field of vision as I watched it swoop and flit around for several minutes. Oddly, wherever I looked, there the blob went. I took off my glasses and cleaned them to get a clearer look, but strangely, when I put them back on, the mysterious hovering blob had disappeared. Perhaps one of your readers also saw this enigmatic shape yesterday, and can explain what it was ?

Last night I stood outside my flat and looked out over the sea, to my amazement I saw a ray of light in the distance. At first I thought it was the northern lights. Unsure of what is was I woke my boyfriend. After five or ten minutes we decided to go back to bed, to dream, to wonder what those lights had meant.

I was out riding my mtb on the Downs near Devils Dyke at about 9pm last night when I spotted a number of amber lights in the distance. They appeared to be closely following the contours of the hills.

When I got back to the road it was covered in a gritty substance that tasted salty when my front tyre threw some up into my mouth.

Very weird.

Last night I was trudging along the Downs, way above Falmer when I noticed five or six figures dancing around a cauldron. They were led by a woman in a pointed hat, who seemed to respond to the name Pam or Ann. I could barely make out who they were, but I could hear some chanting. Something about casting a ghastly spell on Brighton & Hove Albion. Very odd, indeed.

Fascinating. I consider myself somewhat of an expert in this area having watched all of the X-files. I think it is important for people to realise that if Aliens had the technology to visit Earth they would also have the ability to remain 'cloaked'. I am also of the opinion that Aliens placed (and destroyed) dinosaurs on the planet after the reign of Dragons.

Since I got married at the age of 28 my hair has gradually been disappearing.

Now at the age of forty I have very little left.

I can only conclude my wife is an alien and has consumed the lot whilst I slept.

She obviously isn't so keen on nose and ear hair, though, as I seem to have a lot more of that than I used to.

I can speak from personal experience. I am an Alien but was forced to flee my homeworld. I have now resided in the UK for the last 26 years, where I am known as Gavin. My behaviour over the last 6 months has begun to worry me though, to be honest I have become a bit of a deviant. Any advice would be welcome on how I can change my ways.

Pam or Ann? I used to fly with them a lot in the 80s.

The flying "tube" could have been a "solar airship", its a giant tube, a bit like a long binbag that you fill with air by opening it and running, you then tie it off and the material it is made of uses the sun to heat the air inside making it float. I had one, it was huge and if let of its string would look very similar to the "UFO" caught on camera. Go to the science museum site to see this toy for sale, or google "solar air ship" for videos of it in action!

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about with aliens. Everyone seems to expect them to be some superior being who will take over our World with intellugence and technology far beyond anything we can produce.

But I've seen plenty of documentaries interviewing Americans about their experiences of being kidnapped by aliens, taken to the mother ship and having mind probes done, where Aliens are trying to find out about our planet. And every single time the humans these Aliens select are the dumbest, most ignorant, in-breds they could have possibly found.

Aliens don't sound much of an intellectual challenge if you ask me. Rubbish selection policy, has probably meant they know about making moonshine and sleeping with family members, and very little else.

P:ah, we'd see them off in a matter of hours.

That pretty much sums up what the reality of Aliens is. They are not a huge ship, that hangs over cities like Independence Day showed them as, they are in fact the size of a well-fed gnat, and in this case had flown directly into your glasses.

How will we fight off the Alien invasion? Well, some sort of smooth cloth should enable us to wipe them off our glasses.

thank goodness my wife and I are not the only ones going mad over seeing these strange things in the sky at night. we were by St Peter's church/Albion Hill 19.15 hours the day of the Queen's visit when we saw these strange things in the sky coming from the Shoreham airport area. we thought it might have been something to do with the Queen's visit. They were not airplanes,helecopters or hot air balloons.They were lit up just like hot air balloons but unlike them the glow was on all the time and more elongated.There were 4 altogether travelling quite fast in land in the direction of lewes but the last one was some distance away from the others. as it went past it looked like a great big fairy liquid bubble moving about. so what were they some one must know.I tried to phone the airport on Monday but did not make any contact

With regard to UFOs, my interest is in any unusual phenomena which might accompany them.Shortly before midnight on 14/03/07 I was reading in bed. I never draw the curtains. The bedside light flicked off then came on at the same time a flash of light came from outside. My house is in a secluded estate on a footpath - I imagined the light was a neighbour's security lamp. However, it stayed on for longer than normal. Seconds after the light appeared my telephone answer device gave out a message about the number of rings before the answer delay message comes on. The phone did not ring. There was no one else around and no movement to account for any disturbance to the lamp or the phone. I did not get up to investigate but did have a sense of something not quite normal.

My boy friend and I were watch the eclipse of the moon and we saw a large orange ball moving slowly accross the sky line just under the moon, I would guess it was far to high to be a joke ufo.

I also saw these lights on Sat eve around 11.30pm. I was driving along the seafront from Bton to Hove and stopped twice to watch the 3 lights coming from the South West in a straight line heading North East. Additionally, as I neared the King Alfred,something on fire (not very big) fell out of the sky and floated down into the gutter!

Shame I didn't have a camera as I was almost underneath it. I wasn't convinced it was anything especially unusual, as it was not apparently moving against the wind, though I couldn't work out quite what it was.

Wednesday 2:20am Fly over, same on thursday, and I got a pic of the one the week before, I have seen alot of UFO round here, I belive it was flown out of ricardos shoreham, and judging by the manuvers and frequency shift in the engine noise, I'd guess that there 'tuning' in the top plate that aids in the crafts lift, I used to know someone at ricardos, I know they where looking at the 'Aurora' Engine at the facility, also judging by the way several craft have been tuned it would seem there manufacturing technique has much to be desired, its really only a magnet 'earthed' to itself with an extra posative (I don't understand why they don't teach kids how these work in schools), the cold weather also makes better flying conditions for tests, as the heat can cause undesirable effects to an unfinished engine, I'm willing to bet there be a few interested aliens in these earthy tests so the forecast for some real UFO are quite high, and if your really lucky - u might get a house visit !!!, just remember to put the kettle on ok ;).

Oh the flying stick!! I forgot to mention, this would be a mothership, it is the most logical way to transport ur run of the mill UFO throu space, as reguler round UFO are usually not capable of traveling in space due to the use of MRA to generate energy, so they stack them up in a cylinder craft and transport themselvs that way, v simple science missing from text books etc, I suppose you should all stay in more gheez.

Well... If you heard sound from the object spotted it's likely that it wasn't extraterristrial, since it's assumed their technology is based around zero gravity electromagnetic fields rather than jet or rocket propulsion.

Hard to tell anything from the video, but still interesting. Don't let media or authorities put it down as nothing that fast...

Atleast that was said by a somewhat highup placed military man on his deathbed. He was clearheaded when saying it and disclosed it because of guild...

Hey there ive been looking for a site that would have this up! i too saw what could only be described as a shiny pole flying steadily around in the shape of a nurdle. i definitely think on that Sunday i saw something unusual; out of this world. maybe we are all going to be taken over, my boyfriend Wilfred says he has been abducted but that was a gd few years ago. i think he's mad,any response to this guys?

I was at a friends with my family having a bbq it was pretty dark and i saw an orange light almost like a street lights colour, very bright and mooving swiftly in a southerly direction. my brother had seen somthing just like it on the beach a few weeks ago. He said it was going in a southerly direction aswell and once the light disapeard another one came and went in the same direction and another and another. I saw another two after my first sighting a few mins after i saw the first It definatly wasnt a plane as it didn't have the right flashing lights as a plane does. I have no idea what it was if anyone has any explantions which arn't out of the question write back on this page please.

I lost my solar airship on Sunday afternoon over Cosham, near portsmouth. there was no wind and I eventually lost sight of it as it rose majestically to over 15,000 feet. It did look silvery in the sunlight.

Strange lights have been seen in Sussex and elsewhere for a very long time, back then they were called fairies, willo-the-wisp, ghosts and dragons.
Now it's all military conspiracies and aliens.That is the way our society sees these mysterious objects.
We laugh at the so called superstitions of our ancestors but we are just as guilty.Instead of fairies we see aliens.
The question is what are people seeing.
Many reports are explained away. Many people are not used to looking at the sky so anything flashing away up there is strange.
There are a few sightings that are strange.
Unfortunatly the conspiracy theorists and UFO buffs get in first. When someone then suggests a plausible explanation, they then say they are experts on the subject and they therefore are correct.
The media do not help the situation as they tend to side with the aliens are invading us brigade and take the mick out of any-one who comes up with a rational explanation.
Of course when someone sees something strange in the sky they automatically want to tell someone and UFO organisations are the most obvious.
As i said before there are some sightings that are strange.
But maybe the answer is not from outer space but from the Earth.
Only now are scientists accepting such unsual phenomena as Earthquake lights and ball lightning. There are some that are also looking into a light phenomena called Earthlights.
These are strange lightforms that are caused by stresses in the earths rocks.
The are still mysterious.
They also seem to affect peoples minds probably because of there high electromagnetic properties which could well explain strange experiences people have.
The Earth still has many secrets that we are only just finding out about.

The video appears to show a dark object moving.
Are there any closer images?
All this proves is that someone took an unsteady shot of an object flying.
Closer examination of the film would be needed.
Has this been done?

on 21/10/07 at 9.15 sunday evening i saw four orange lights moving across the sky lower than an aircraft, travelling at the same speed and the same distance apart. At first they were travelling fast then slowed down and after a few minutes dissappeared one at a time.

Last night while sitting in a friend's garden in Queens Park Road at about 8.30pm, we saw a strange orange glowing object coming from a SW direction. It was moving steadily through the sky and looked like a small plane on fire. It seemed to be flickering. There was no sound really - maybe a hum. My friend thought it made a whooshing sound. As it went overhead it gradually got higher and higher and we watched it get so high that it disappeared. Either that or the fire went out!
