Cases of MRSA at a hospital trust have fallen by more than a third in a year.
But Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust still failed to hit the Government's target to cut cases by half.
The trust, which runs the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, and the Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath, recorded 66 cases between April 2007 and March this year.

It had aimed to reduce cases to 53 compared with 106 the previous year.
The trust stepped up its infection control in a bid to lower the risk of catching the potentially deadly bug.
Hospital visits were banned in the morning to give staff time to clean wards properly.
People were also urged to wash their hands before entering and leaving wards, and staff were banned from wearing ties and jewellery.
Trust board members will discuss the latest report on MRSA and other infections such as clostridium difficile at a meeting on Tuesday at the Princess Royal.
