Toddler Evane Hinton is described as a little miracle by her family because by rights she should not be here.

The chemotherapy her mum Beth Bryant had during cancer treatment should have destroyed her chances of having another baby – but against all the odds, Evane happened.

Ms Bryant, husband Matt and her sons Tony, 14 and Dean, 12, are so delighted at their little bundle of joy, they are supporting Cancer Research UK’s Stand Up to Cancer campaign.

Ms Bryant, 43, a mortgage advisor from Haywards Heath, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in the large bowel in 2008.

She underwent a series of operations and intensive chemotherapy. Although it saved her life, doctors warned her it would make her infertile.

She said: “They did offer me a drug to try to give me a 50-50 chance of conceiving. But I already had two healthy boys and I felt I had enough to contend with, so I declined that.”

Once Ms Bryant had finished treatment, the family settled back into a normal family life, just glad she had made it.

But then came the bombshell that Ms Bryant was expecting a baby.

She said: “The last thing I was expecting was to fall pregnant. I just couldn’t believe it. Matt was stunned but thrilled.

“I don’t think anyone could believe it, especially my mum and my close family because they knew what I had been through and there was no way I was supposed to get pregnant.”

Through her pregnancy, Ms Bryant wrestled with whether she was physically able to carry and bear a baby.

She said: “I just doubted my body was capable and of course the midwives kept a very close eye on me. But we made it.”

Evane made her entrance into the world on May 21 last year, making the family complete.

Ms Bryant said: “Even now I look at her and think what a little miracle she is.”

Ms Bryant’s life-saving treatment and the gift of a whole new life, has made her and the rest of the family ready to campaign for the charity.

“She said: “It’s thanks to research I am still here and we have Evane. I am so grateful for the treatment that saved my life.

“Sadly, however, not everyone survives. That’s why I want to do all I can to get everyone in the county to Stand Up To Cancer.”

Stand Up To Cancer takes place on October 18.
