CANCER campaigner Sara Cutting said she was left inspired and humbled when she joined hundreds of others for the prestigious Women of the Year event.

The 47-year-old from Brighton was among 400 women from around the UK who gathered for a glittering lunch in London to share their stories.

Ms Cutting is well known for her popular Facebook updates where she posts a picture of herself wearing a different hat every day and urges people to be aware of cancer.

Among the many famous faces Ms Cutting met at the lunch included Judy Murray, Esther Rantzen, Maureen Lipman, Floella Benjamin, Lorraine Kelly and Sandi Toksvig.

A series of photos of her with the stars have now been posted on her page.

Ms Cutting, who wore a colourful and specially designed hat for the event, said: “It was one of the most amazing, humbling, awe inspiring days of my life.

“In a room full of 400 women, each and every one with an incredible story to tell.

The energy in was extraordinary, just astounding.

“I will treasure the day for as long as I am privileged to live.

“I am tearful, happy and most importantly so very encouraged to do more with my on-going campaign of encouraging people to be body aware.

“I know that however bad the situation is, that good things truly can come from bad.”

Ms Cutting began her campaign when she was about to start treatment for breast cancer two years ago and had to go through weeks and months of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

The hats have ranged from anything from toasters, kettles, teapots and board games to radios, flowers and feathers while others have been sent in by supporters from around the world.

The campaign was originally only meant to run for a year but has now become so popular, Ms Cutting has vowed to keep it going indefinitely.

As well as raising awareness about the importance of checking yourself for signs of cancer, Ms Cutting is also helping Macmillan Cancer Support.

She is close to her £20,000 target for the charity and funds will go to its new Horizon Centre for cancer patients next to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
