A CANCER campaigner and supporter of assisted dying will be joining a panel to discuss issues raised at a show next week.

God’s Waiting Room by Karen Bartholomew is described as an “end of life comedy” which features a mother who is dying and how her two daughters respond to this.

The show will be performed at the Rialto Theatre in Brighton and there will be a question and answer session afterwards.

The panel will include the cast, Tora Colwill from the Modern Funeral and Sara Cutting from Brighton.

Sara, 48, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014 and went on to have surgery and gruelling chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

During this time she set up her popular daily headgear challenge, in which she posted a photo of herself on Facebook wearing a different hat every day for year.

The posts quickly became popular around the world, with people sending in donations of hats for her to wear.

Ms Cutting now also raises awareness of the importance of checking for signs of cancer and fundraises for Macmillan Cancer Support.

She is also an advocate of assisted dying and has spoken of her support for a change in the law to allow it to happen in the UK.

Proceeds from the show on June 21 at the theatre in Dyke Road will go the Macmillan Horizon Centre in Brighton.

The centre, based next to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, provides a wide range of support for cancer patients across Sussex.

Sara said: “I was approached by the playwright, Karen Bartholomew, after she saw me on the news talking about my campaigning to get assisted dying legalised.

“I read the script and loved the way such a heart wrenching subject was dealt with using comedy.

“I also liked how in the end, there is no right or wrong.

“After a few meetings we managed to secure a Brighton venue.

“Karen and her cast all agreed to make the Brighton performance a fundraiser for the Horizon Centre.”

Ms Cutting said in a previous interview: “I’ve no illusions, if my cancer comes back and I’m given a terminal diagnosis, I want to live a life – a real life – until the day I decide to die.
