ST Barnabas House is inviting those who have lost a loved one to take part in its Sunflower Memories Appeal.

The appeal enables supporters of the Worthing hospice to make a donation in memory of a loved one.

In return, the hospice provides a lovely sunflower marker, onto which the name of your loved one can be written.

Each sunflower will be planted in the hospice grounds for the month of June.

On Friday June 8 at 6pm and Saturday June 9 at 10:30am, the hospice’s Chaplain, Stephen Gurr, will conduct a blessing in memory of all those for whom a sunflower has been dedicated.

In September 2014, Andrew’s wife, Tina, was diagnosed with inoperable small bowel cancer.

Soon after she began having chemotherapy.

Andrew said: “Tina started attending the Day Hospice at St Barnabas in February 2015.

“She wasn’t that keen at first, but after a couple of weeks everything seemed to revolve around her Thursdays at St B - she couldn’t miss it.

“I would like to say a big thank you to all the staff and volunteers. She really enjoyed it, doing craft and the days out.

“What I didn’t know was that she was sorting out photos for her memory book, which was a lovely surprise for us all.

“In June 2016, Tina was admitted to the In-patient Unit at St Barnabas.

“She was there for five weeks.

“Tina was a fighter, she didn’t want to give in.

“They did a marvellous job of looking after her and making her final days as comfortable as possible.

“She passed away on 26 July 2016.”

Last year, Andrew and the family attended one of the Sunflower Memories blessings in memory of Tina.

Will you join him in remembering a loved one with a sunflower dedicated in their memory?
