Falmer stadium moves step closer

Brighton and Hove Albion bosses have chosen two contractors to compete for the right to build the £50 million Falmer stadium.

Three major contractors were invited to submit detailed “design and build” tender documents to the club.

Albion chief executive Martin Perry, who is leading the 30-strong stadium project team, said those contractors had now been narrowed down to two.

A final decision on which contractor will be hired is expected to be made by the end of September.

The Argus can reveal that one of the contractors competing for the project is the Buckingham Group, which built the impressive 22,000-seat MK Dons stadium in Milton Keynes and an extension at Manchester United’s Old Trafford ground.

Meanwhile the club’s proposals to widen the Stanmer Park access road have been approved by Brighton and Hove City Council.

The plans are a vital part of the Seeda-funded infrastructure work, which is scheduled to start in April next year.

Construction workers are expected to begin work on the project at Village Way North in December. The club hopes to kick off the 2010/11 season in the 22,500-seat arena.

Communities Secretary Hazel Blears finally approved plans for the stadium in July last year.

She was the third minister to oversee the planning application, which became the longest ever endured by a British football club.

...Grass Bank! lol...because that's about all they can afford for a "stadium" without somebody lending them vast sums of money or without them dipping into the taxpayers pocket!

can we ask what stanmer park accesss road has to do with the Falmer stadium, unless it is being used as an over flow or contractors car park?

A link road is being built between Stanmer Park and the Uni Car Parks(as part of original application). This application was to widen the existing access road by one metre so traffic can travel both ways to and from new link road.

No harm in hoping I suppose. I'm hoping I win the lottery on saturday. (I must try to remember to do it.)

If I were a resident of Falmer Village, I would get the sale of my house in now - before the place is destroyed. Its a shame the club wont do the decent thing and buy it at the pre-crash market rate.

I bet 'John Catt' (see 83 yr old pensioner story) is rubbing his hands with glee as the Albion 'problem' is shifted elsewhere

Because Adenstar or some other name like it paid the club a donation of £500,000.00 so i think they will be on the list by default

Buckingham group were named as they publicly admitted they were after the contract.

The others tendering are The Bowen Group and Barr construction

And Adenstar or no other name like it gave any money for this reason!!!

Nevermind

More odds of the stadium being ready in time (evens)than there is of you winning the lottery (14,000,000-1)

So the infrastructure work is to be SEEDA funded ...is that before or after the well known "Chairman" James ("catch him in his taxpayer funded taxi") Braithwaite has deducted his.."expenses" ???
