Roll out the blue and white carpet

It could be the next best thing to rolling out the red carpet for an Albion fan.

Devoted supporters are being given the chance to follow in the footprints of Seagulls legends and star names of the past from rival clubs.

Among the items for sale at the seventh annual Albion collectors’ fair at Withdean on Sunday is a blue and white Goldstone carpet, rescued from the foyer just before the old stadium was demolished 11 years ago.

A reserve price of £80 has been put on the carpet, which also bears the Seagull club logo. According to the description, it is in need of a professional clean but is “hard-wearing” and “otherwise in good condition”.

A Goldstone turnstile counter is also up for grabs. The green-painted metallic counter has a window slot but no glass and the fascia is dented, so the reserve price is set at £60.

Most expensive of the 53 lots on offer is the programme for Albion's FA Cup first round replay against Watford in 1925. That will set you back £220.

The free fair takes place from 11am to 1pm in the Withdean hospitality suite and will be followed by an auction of Albion memorabilia.

The catalogue and bidding details can already be viewed online at albionhistory.org.uk.

Funds raised from the event go to the Brighton and Hove Albion Collectors' and Historians’ Society, which hopes to establish a museum at Albion’s new stadium at Falmer.
