King Alfred could get its skates on

A disused Hove seafront site could support a new ice rink, according to experts.

Last year Brighton and Hove City Council gave the go-ahead for a professional survey to see if the plans for part of the King Alfred Leisure Centre site in Hove would be safe.

Bosses have previously said this is not a sign they are giving the ice rink proposal the green light.

Jon Orrell, of Hemsley Orrell Partnership, carried out the inspection and said the area is currently supporting about 350mm of earth, which would weigh than the proposed rink.

Brighton-based Simon James, who is behind the plans, said: “The structure is considered safe and the ice rink project is feasible without any major works needing to be carried out.”

Architects are designing the prefabricated, modular building for the group’s proposal.

How about this article is revisited when some actual progress and confirmed plans are set? Until then we can be witness to the constant to'ing & fro'ing with no solid results.

Woohoo! Give us an ice rink!

I haven't played hockey in years because of the lack of rinks in this country, and my skates are gathering rust.

Of course it probably wont happen as people are miserable and wont want to pay for it... or anything for that matter.

At least someone is being creative and proactively trying to do something with the King Alfred, and it looks like a fairly reasonable use of wasteland next to and part of the leisure centre.

It’s great for the city and Hove to have such a facility. I can only wish them good luck for identifying the site as a possibility in the first place and more than that, acting on it.

And Crystal Ball, I can see into your future, you haven’t got one! Can't beleive how miserable some posters are on here.

Not even worth mentioning john5001, whats that about?

a prefabricated modular building, that will be attractive (not). the seafront is already a tired mess, and where will they park etc. all other seaside cities are rocketing ahead in the 21st century with stunning designed seafronts, and we get faded tired 80s buildings and prefabricated sports hall. a joke.
