King Alfred could get its skates on

A disused Hove seafront site could support a new ice rink, according to experts.

Last year Brighton and Hove City Council gave the go-ahead for a professional survey to see if the plans for part of the King Alfred Leisure Centre site in Hove would be safe.

Bosses have previously said this is not a sign they are giving the ice rink proposal the green light.

Jon Orrell, of Hemsley Orrell Partnership, carried out the inspection and said the area is currently supporting about 350mm of earth, which would weigh than the proposed rink.

Brighton-based Simon James, who is behind the plans, said: “The structure is considered safe and the ice rink project is feasible without any major works needing to be carried out.”

Architects are designing the prefabricated, modular building for the group’s proposal.
