Anti-arms protesters blockaded the entrance to a factory in Brighton this morning.

A man and a woman glued themselves to the gates of the EDO ITT factory in Home Farm Road, Moulsecoomb, at about 5.55am.

A second woman used a bicycle lock to attach herself to an entrance.

Sussex Police said about a dozen other protesters sat or lay down in the road to block the route in.

Factory managers eventually removed a section of fence to allow workers to drive in.

A police spokeswoman said the demonstration was over by 9.10am. No-one was arrested.

A statement from campaign group Smash EDO said the demonstration was made to protest at the alleged supply of weapons components made at the factory to the US military.

Smash EDO spokeswoman Chloe Marsh said: "Every job in the arms trade is still massively subsidised by the state.

"The exports made by EDO benefit only the company CEOs.

"All this at the same time as the government is cutting the education and health budgets and hammering ordinary people's pensions and benefits."
