Changes to postal deliveries that have led to chaos in Brighton and Hove are to be introduced in Seaford.

The Royal Mail yesterday revealed it is to rip up and replace its current delivery routes and times around the town as part of a modernisation plan.

The restructure will mean customers will get their post throughout the day.

Officials admitted that some residents and businesses in the BN25 postcode would have their post delivered later than they currently do.

When similar changes were made to the routes in Brighton it left postal services in chaos, with reports of parcels stacked up in the North Road sorting office for weeks as staff struggled to get to grips.

The company says these problems have now been resolved following the launch of The Argus’s Sort It Out campaign, which was aimed at tackling the delays.

Royal Mail says it needs to modernise the way it operates and the changes will enable it to maintain its services and keep prices as low as possible.

The company is writing to every address about the changes, including households, businesses and other organisations.

Royal Mail had already announced plans to change delivery times across the Chichester district last week to make it easier for posties carrying more parcels.

The company says the changes will require a period of adjustment for staff but that it will do everything possible to maintain a high level of service.

Collection and delivery sector manager Sven Hambly said: “We are proud of the high regard in which our postmen and women are held in Seaford.

“The changes to delivery routes will mean that a member of our local and experienced team will still be delivering to our customers in the area.

“The local delivery team and I are fully committed to providing a high quality of service that is as reliable and friendly as customers have come to expect from Royal Mail over many years.”
