During Thursday's "turning on" display, I was pleased to see Brighton illuminated by proper Christmas lights at last.
However, my enjoyment of the event was marred by the inclusion of two live reindeer.
Forced to process through the crowded city centre in front of a noisy samba band, these poor creatures looked distressed.
Was it foolish to expect Brighton, of all places, to put animal welfare before festive whimsy?
