My daughter happened to be in North Street on Saturday, June 9, and was conversing with me by telephone when the naked cyclists hoved into her view.
We gathered that some sort of protest was going on, but my daughter was unable to identify the issue because the flag on display was drooping, I daresay in sympathy with many of the participants.
As the demonstrators seem not to have been concerned about the message, or they would have made sure it was legible, presumably what they were after was the publicity guaranteed by the nudity.
While the report in The Argus on June 11 indicated that some people regarded the event as harmless fun and people's right to protest in any way they see fit, I see it as childish exhibitionism coupled with an arrogant disregard for members of the community who have been brought up to show modesty in themselves and respect for others.
No doubt some children will be squirming with embarrassment and denying that The Argus photographs show their parents baring all.
I note that Mr Blinkhorn, the organiser, intends an encore next year.
For goodness' sake, man, if you do arrange another demonstration, kindly grow up, dress up and set a sensible example about appropriate clothing and safety gear for youngsters venturing out on their bikes.
