So areas of Sussex are to get a 20mph speed limit to protect pedestrians and cyclists (The Argus, June 16). Apart from implying that all road accidents are caused by motorists, it will cause more problems than it will solve.

I have to agree with the Association of British Drivers, who said it could increase accidents rather than stop them because drivers will be looking at their speedometers.

I have to agree as follows: I may not see the idiot who gets off the bus and steps out into the road behind it and in front of me.

I may not see the child who runs out into the road after his or her ball.

I may not see the idiot who walks straight out into the road while talking on their mobile.

I may not see the idiot who walks straight out on to the zebra crossing, assuming all cars can and should stop immediately.

I may not see the cyclist who decides to turn right without looking over their shoulder or indicating.

I may not see the bus that pulls out without indicating.

I may not see the motorbike coming the other way.

I may not see the stopped cars in front of me with a bike between us.

I may not see any of it because I was looking at my speedometer.

All of the above has happened to me at one time or another on my drive to and from work.

I doubt I'm the only one who has these thoughts either.
