TALENTED young dancers put on another fantastic display yesterday.

Youngsters from 19 primary and secondary schools and dance crews from across Brighton and Hove performed in Let’s Dance to a packed Brighton Dome.

Last night was the third of four performances over consecutive nights in what is the largest celebration of school dance in the UK.

By the end of Thursday’s finale more than 2,000 youngsters from nearly 75 schools, colleges, and community groups will have performed.

Among the schools going through their paces when The Argus visited rehearsals yesterday was Hangleton Primary and West Hove Infant School, whose pupils staged some highly energetic routines.

The event is organised and managed by Dorothy Stringer School with the assistance from 24 dance students from Varndean College, who run backstage.

Varndean College dance student Zoe Gates, 17, from Saltdean, said: “I really like volunteering. It’s great such a show can be put on with all primary schools coming together.

“It’s really nice to see all the schools – there’s a really nice atmosphere.”

The Varndean students are also preparing for their performance on the final night.

Zoe said: “We have a show called Breaking Boundaries in May, which is an hour-long piece, and we will be performing a small section as a teaser so people can see what were working on.”

Head of dance at Varndean College Liz Yelland said: “It’s a really amazing chance to be part of the Brighton and Hove community and to work with all of these young children.

“Some of them have performed at Let’s Dance since they were five years old and now, eleven years later, they are getting to actually run it.”

Dorothy Stringer’s Katie Booth, Let’s Dance co-ordinator, said: “It’s such a fantastic event to be part of.

“It does take a lot of co-ordination but the children and young people really enjoy it and it’s great to see such a broad age range take part in the shows.

“Everyone involved puts in 110 per cent.

“It’s great to see so many smiling faces and fantastic dance moves.

“Well done to everyone taking part.”
